Hey, we are Semmi and Meskela—two cousins who launched Tib Tib Shop to honor the legacy of our grandmother, a hardworking farmer from Eritrea, East Africa. We were raised to believe that Africa is an innovative and beautiful continent. At Tib Tib Shop, our mission is to break negative stereotypes associated with Africa and the Black diaspora. We provide lifestyle goods and beverages inspired by different African heritages. In Tigrinya, a language spoken in Eritrea, North East Sudan, and Ethiopia, ‘tib tib’ means ‘drip drop.’ It’s also the shorthand version of our grandma’s name. At Tib Tib Shop, we stand by her infamous motto, “Do good, Be good.”
In many African cultures, conversations never really start until coffee/tea is served. It is the utmost expression of comfort and respect. Founded in 2012, Tib Tib Shop began serving our trademark East Africa Chai flavor to a network of cafes in New York and Washington D.C. We then expanded, introducing our black spice tea by doing “tea party” pop-ups in different cities around the world like Montreal, Stockholm, Bologna, and Toronto. This year, Tib Tib Shop will be dropping a specialty beverage line; representing more regions in Africa, with different flavor profiles. We’re so excited to serve our global community of guests. If you have any questions about our new beverage line contact us. And yes, we still plan on pouring our classic East Africa Chai. :)
All of our accessories are eco-friendly, and rep the Motherland. At Tib Tib Shop, we are intentional. Our lifestyle goods reclaim histories, showcasing the vivid diversity of African traditions.
